RE: Sewer Hose

I just connect the two ends together and stow in the sewer bin with all the other sewer stuff, with the ends together no liquid will leak out so no mess

RE: Locking a King Pin Stabilizer Jack

the "cup" at the top of the king pin stabilizer that the king pin fits in to has two holes to put a lock through I would suggest a longer shackle on the lock then a normal lock has

RE: Disk Brakes

if you are ordering a 5er I would recommend the disc brakes, on our first trip out we came upon some road work, right lane closed, I was already in the left lane traveling about 55 mph when traffic came to a dead halt, had to stop very quickly, (we have a 350 with integrated brake controller) hit the pedal hard didn't think we would stop in time, the 5er disc brakes engaged after about a second delay, both DW and I were pitched forward when the 5er brakes grabbed we stopped about 8 feet behind the car in front of us, the car behind us went in to the grass in the median, the car behind them had to swerve to the right into the closed lane, so it would seem a 10,000 lb truck pulling a 17,000 lb 5er with disc brakes can stop faster then a car. very nice when coming down a mountain also

RE: Most common insurance claims

we just had a problem with the valve on the toilet, we are fulltime and were many miles from any kz dealer so I called thetford (toilet maker) because it was still under their warranty. they were very helpful in finding a mobile repair service, all was well until I found out all thetford would cover was the part and labor to install, not the 95 dollar service charge or the almost 300 dollar round trip mileage charge. bought the part my self and installed it saved almost 400 bucks. so as others have said read the fine print

RE: Association discounts ----> Which one?

we tend to stay in one place longer and have found that many discount plans only offer 1-2-3 nite discounts, many times with the week or longer rate a discount will not apply. that said we did find a rv park that accepted pass port america cut our cost in half for a two month stay. you need to look at each camp ground to see what kind of deal they offer. we are now carrying good sam and pass port america (the two month stay more then paid for the 45 dollar cost)

RE: Gas mileage with your rig alone, and with your fiver?

10 to 12 towing (at 60mph) 13 to 16 empty (4:30 rear end) depending on long or short trips

RE: lock on 5th wheel so cannot be stolen

We had a king pin lock, its looks like a short length of pipe with two small slots for the lock. Now we have a king pin stabilizer (really helped with the front end motion) and you can slip a lock in it same as the king pin lock, so we got two for one on that deal. check out camping world they have a few types of king pin locks

RE: power awning are they good or not?

It must depend on the manufacture if you can adjust the awning or not, we have a power awning by carefree of colorado, when we wintered out west the afternoon sun got very hot at times so I lowered the angle of the awning it was easy only took a few moments

RE: Anyone done a Disc Brake Conversion??

we ordered disk brakes on our 5er, first trip out came upon road construction had already moved to the left lane, moving at about 50 mph when traffic came to a dead halt, had to hit the brakes hard, when the 5er brakes grabbed DW and I both pitched forward and we stopped about 4 feet from the car in front of us I looked in the mirrors to see the car behind us go into the center ditch and the car behind them swerve off to the right. IMHO disk brakes good!!!!

RE: KZ Escalade Correction

I am very surprised that you have no manuals for the leveling system, we received a plastic holder that is about three inches thick with manuals for every item in the 5er. on our first trip out the phrase better get the book out was heard often. the manual for the Atwood leveler says push auto down button on the remote, the four legs will extend until they make contact with the ground, press and hold the front button to extend the front 4 inches, press and hold the rear button to extend the back 4 inches, press and hold the IND button press each leg button to level side to side as needed. be carefully on the side to side too much on one leg or the other and the door wont fit right. glad to hear you like your Escalade, we have been fulltiming for a year now and love ours

RE: Introducing ourselfs to site members

welcome, DW and I have been fulltimeing for a year now this life style is better then we thought it would be. can't speak about your 5th wheel but you will enjoy your tow rig. I wanted the 450 but at the time ford did not offer the 450 on the A plan (employee purchase) so I went with the 350, the very next year they offered the 450 on the A plan. well that's life. hope all works out well for you

RE: Ladder recommendation

I picked up a 7 foot a frame steps on both sides from camping world. it folds up to about 5 inches square by 7 foot very compact I think it was around 150.00 kinda pricey but it does not take up much space in the basement

RE: How do you store your sewer hose ?

the day before we leave a site I close the gray tank valve to let that tank fill. then when ready to leave the next day, dump the black, then the gray to clean the hose out, disconnect the hose and attach the two ends together and stow in a plastic tub that all the other sewer stuff goes in. that way you do not have to worry about any yucky water dribbling out

RE: 5ers self leveling systems

we have a leveling system that we ordered on our Escalade, it is not a self leveling system, you do have to push the buttons on the remote. the instructions say hit the auto down button all four jacks lower until they make contact with the ground, then raise front four inches, then raise back four inches, then level side to side as needed each jack can be individualy adjusted. this Atwood leveling system cost about 2500.00 and is the best option we put on our fiver any one ordering a new fiver should consider this option, you will tell yourself how smart you are every time you set up.

RE: Suggestions on all-in-one Washer/Dryer

we have the splendide 2000s vented, love it. we also had(note had) a non vented unit, hated it. if you dont want to loose all the space in your closet, the vented washerdryer combo is the way to go
